This two-part video series on kelp nursery production in BC demonstrates the technology of harvesting and growing kelp spores for commercial and restoration availability. art 1 walks practitioners through the full process of kelp sori collection and harvesting in the field (covering equipment and methods, guidelines and best practices, bryozoan fouling species identification, harvest location selection criteria, and the licensing requirements for kelp harvest in BC). It also introduces NIC’s CARTI and Seaweed Innovation Hub. Part 2 covers the lab side of nursery production (sori processing equipment, tissue extraction and cleaning, desiccation, and the step-by-step process of growing spores on commercial spools through to kelp ready for outplanting).
