Coastal Habitats Hub

THE SEAGRASS COLLECTIVE

A network of the Coastal Habitats Learning & Knowledge Hub

Mission Statement

The Seagrass Collective will bring together ‘seagrass’ enthusiasts (practitioners, scientists and more) in British Columbia and Washington State concerned with the health of native seagrasses in the region.

The network will aim to organize, share, and coalesce seagrass stewardship, monitoring, restoration and research efforts.

Through network-supported communication, training and an action-driven working group, the Seagrass Collective will endorse and work towards priority topics for seagrass research, conservation and restoration. The Seagrass Collective will support local stewardship efforts and leverage national and international initiatives and networks.

Objectives & Priorities

  • Integrating community seagrass knowledge, including qualitative data and local observations
  • Bringing researchers and practitioners together to synthesize, interpret, and share seagrass restoration work
  • Develop machine learning tools for site level seagrass monitoring
  • Connecting initiatives across regional to national scales
